The Long Road

The road is long with many turns and twists. There are times when darkness and shadows obscure the way but you cannot turn around and go in the other direction.  This road is one-way - you must go onward.  It leads from birth to death.  It’s a road from which there is no return.  All who read these thoughts are on that road.  Some of you may have been traveling for a relatively short period of time while others may have been journeying for many, many years.  Some are closer to the end of the road than others. But regardless of where you are today, one day each person will arrive the end of the road.  It cannot be avoided.  Death awaits all.

“All go to one place: all are from the dust, and all return to dust” (Ecclesiastes 3:20).

The most important thing in life is to prepare yourself for the day when you reach the end of the road.  For after death, you will stand in God’s presence.  He will ask you about your life and what you did for Him as you traveled on that long road.

“Then the dust will return to the earth as it was, and the spirit will return to God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7).

“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment...” (Hebrews 9:27).

You may ask, “How do I know what God expects from me as I travel this road”?  God has not left you in the dark to stumble along but has given you a guide to follow.  That guide is His word – the bible. God’s word lights the way and shows you where to go.  By following it, you can safely travel that long road and be prepared to stand before Him when you reach the end.  As the Psalmist said, “Thy word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).
